06/09/07: Quote of the day... (okay, it's a day late!)

Due to the busy wedding season, I'm falling behind a bit on my Daily Photo Tips...I'm gonna try to catch up in the next few days. I had a wedding yesterday that kept me busy all day so here is your Friday "quote of the day" delivered on Saturday. It's worth the wait...

Earlier this week I was in Orlando attending photographer Garrett Nudd's "Elevate 2" seminar and I had the opportunity to meet the wonderfully talented Orlando photographer Curt Littlecott. Curt was speaking about cooperating with fellow photographers when he dropped this great quote...

"It's better to be inside the tent pissing out, than outside the tent pissing in."
-- Curt Littlecott

That's brilliant!

I suppose many would consider me a pedant.

My own view is that it is best to know more than the current instant of time.

So, yes, Curt Littlecott quote "It's better to be inside the tent pissing out, than outside the tent pissing in." IS clever, but perhaps not as clever as President Lynden Johnson's original and spontaneous comment on J Edgar Hoover: "It’s probably better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside the tent pissing in"

The one is original, the other but a (very slightly) reworked repetition.

The art of words is much older than that of photography - yet is more enriched by origination than by imitation.

Of course, LBJ did subsequently credit an "old Arabian saying"...
